About the Ghostwriter

(Click here to read an interview of me on blogcritics.)

My name is Steve McCardell. I've been writing full-time as a freelancer since 2001. I've written on dozens of topics for scores of clients, providing speeches, web content, brochures, copywriting, and much more.

The bulk of my work, however, has been in ghostwriting books. From life stories to dieting to investing to novels, I've already been involved in many book types. My early clients opted for self-publishing; two of them so far have made much more than their investment in me.

I recently began offering a publishing guarantee and am now putting that guarantee to the test. Of two clients whose books were finished under this guarantee, one is now published by an established publishing house and I expect the other to land a contract soon (based on what he is telling me).

By running my own business over the last few years, I've quickly become noted for my talent in marketing as well. I have advised a number of businesses, including a multi-million dollar marketing initiative (for a series of books), and am Chief Marketing Officer of the John W. Nick Foundation.

Because of this, I'm very aware of marketing issues when helping clients with their books.
In fact, I usually talk with them about what angle to take for the sake of the market first thing. And with my knack for marketing, I believe I can give clients a real edge when it comes to book proposals, simply because a proposal is nothing more than a marketing presentation.

In the past, I spent many years writing strictly fiction on my own time. I also taught high school English and writing and have written a book on essay writing. This background has given me the ability to produce quality in both fiction and non-fiction.

In the non-fiction realm, I can research and write on just about any topic; I consider business, health, and spirituality to be my areas of greatest strength. In fiction, I am most interested to work on sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and anything that's unique. I have also written a number of life stories/memoirs.

Finally, I believe in real quality and real service in everything I do. This is why I offer as many as 3 sets of revisions (though never needed so far) and why I often offer extras to my clients just to make sure they find success with their books. This approach leads to friendships with many of my clients; referrals from them; and yes ... even return clients!

This also causes demand, however, and already I am often booked months in advance. This is why I encourage you to take action today if you're serious about trying me out for a book. Remember, I'll work with you on a custom sample before you commit to anything. But the sooner we get going, the sooner you can get onto my schedule and get your book into the hands of agents and publishers!
