The Key West Fishing Tournament (KWFT) is a seven-month-long competition that runs from March through November and is open to the general public. Visiting and resident anglers are encouraged to enter their catches, at no charge, at a tournament weigh station during the seven-month event. All entries receive a certificate noting their catch, and qualify for prizes. Each year the tournament is opened by a special mini Kickoff Tournament. The Kickoff is scheduled for March 10th to 12th, 2006. The KWFT will conclude on November 30th, 2006. All entries entered into either kickoff are also eligible for the seven month tournament. Men, women, juniors and "Pee Wees" compete to catch more than 40 species of fish. The junior division is for anglers age 10 to 14, and the Pee Wees are under 10 years old. Tackle classifications range from 8-pound test through unlimited, and spin, plug and fly. The Southernmost Swordfish Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 10th, 2006. Win cash, trophies and a gold Swordfish pendant! For details see the NEWS section. Our goal is to promote sport fishing participation in the Key West by encouraging the release of game fish.
