Logic puzzles
Puzzles, especially logic puzzles are a great way to expand the brain and augment ones logic skills. There are many different logic puzzles that may be appropriate and enjoyable for you depending on your age and learning levels. They are fantastic learning tools for children, youth and adults. Logic puzzles help you think of things in a way you may not have thought previously. This helps increase the capacity of your brain to think logically.
For young children, logic puzzles can consist of colors, shapes, numbers and letters. Puzzles helping them match colors or shapes or identify certain numbers and letters and place them where they need to be is a wonderful way to get their thinking skills to continually progress. Counting and addition logic puzzles are great for children learning their numbers and how to count. Logic puzzles that require children to locate a specific number or letter in a picture or collage is also a great way to help them sort out unnecessary information and decipher which numbers and letters are which.
Many children struggle to master the concept of money. Supermarket checkout games are simple, yet great logic puzzles that help your child learn to count money and give correct change while in a playful atmosphere. At times, they won't even realize that they are actually learning because they are having so much fun!
Still other children have trouble with the concept of telling time. Logic puzzles that focus on the big and small clock hands and help children identify times of the day are wonderful educators. Children may want to practice by telling where they are or what they are doing at certain times each day and then showing those times on clocks. Clock logic puzzles are made very easily by drawing a clock face on a piece of paper and using a brass brad to fasten the hands to the face.
For many other children mazes are a great logic puzzle. By thinking ahead and trying to decipher which direction to go to reach their goal, these logic puzzles can greatly increase a child's capacity for thinking.
Memory matching games are challenging logic puzzles for children of all ages (yes that includes you adults). Cards can be made or purchased that have two of an identical picture, opposites or questions and answers. These logic puzzles are a great idea for math problems, spelling words, shapes, colors, animals and countless other topics.
Even simple logic puzzles such as Tic Tac Toe help children think logically and plan ahead for what their opponent might do during the next move.
Regular jigsaw puzzles are great logic puzzles for adults as well as children. Large pieces with simple and familiar drawings on the front are great for small children. Pieces can be made of plastic or wood. Pieces with handles are wonderful because children can pick them up easier. They also help increase their hand-eye coordination. For older kids, the number of pieces can increase, the size of each piece can decrease and the subject matter can become more complex to challenge their growing minds. Puzzles can include themes such as items that go in the air, on the road or in the water so children can begin to separate things in their environment.
Logic puzzles are even great for adults. Because adults can get stuck in a rut of the same routine day in and day out, logic puzzles can help stretch their creativity and imagination, help them think outside the box and increase their problem-solving skills. Riddles, word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles are all wonderful logic puzzles to help adults stretch their brain capacity.
