I'd like to hear some ideas about how to make a business take off. What did you do to make your business really get going? Here are some things I did that helped:
(We operate a recording studio)
- Got some first-class business cards with photo images on the front and incentive offers on the back.
- Bought only the best equipment for my field. Our clients quickly picked up on the fact that we were aiming to beat the competition based on quality.
- Communicate, communicate, communicate with our clients. We do projects that can take weeks to complete. Each day, I e-mail them a quick progress update. I am obsessive about this.
- We let folks know we WANT their business and are willing to earn it. I can't tell you how many times I've moved on from doing business with someone because they didn't act like they really cared if I did business with them.
- Treat each person like they are our only and most important client... returning calls and e-mails ASAP, rewarding faithfulness, always shooting to deliver more than expected, designing services around their expressed needs.
- deliver on-time / no excuses. Yeah, we work hard but our clients notice and come back.
- plan, plan, plan so every details goes perfectly when clients are with us.
- Set up an easy to navigate web site that has everything one would need to know about our business.
How about some additional suggestions from your experience? How did you make your business take off?

Judging from your post though it does noy seem like you are actively looking for new business. See if you can find some trade journals relating to your line of work and try advertising in there. ANother suggestion to promote your website is to hire a Search Engine Optimization company. Search engines can provide the most targetted traffic out there.
