Oreo, Mom, and siblingsOreo is a 10 month old, black female Labrador retriever. She was donated to the Oak Island Police Dept. by Richard and Janice Harrison of Topsail beach last December.

Oreo was one month old when Sgt. Lewis brought her home.

She was given her name by the children M&M studentsof the M&M Montessori School, who last July dedicated a "Just Say No to drugs" parade-float to Oreo

Oreo and Sgt. Lewis began training when Oreo was only a few months old under the direction of Master Canine Trainer Amy VanDyne.

Amy donated her time, equipment, facilities and hundred of hours, into training Oreo and Sgt Lewis to be a working police K-9 team.

Sgt Lewis and OreoOreo was trained to distinguish the smells of contraband and to locate them in hidden places. She was also trained to track and trail missing persons or fugitives and to locate evidence in large open areas.  Amy has done this at NO COST to the City of Oak Island or the taxpayers.

In August 2005, Sgt. Lewis and Oreo began a seven week certification and training program at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Training Center in Fayetteville, NC.
