Welcome! And thanks for stopping by our new web site. The Oak Island Police Department is proud to serve the residents and visitors of Oak Island. Our goal is to make sure that we protect and serve the community. Oak Island Police Department consists of 24 full-time officers assigned to three divisions: Administrative, Patrol and Investigation Division. We operate on a 24/7 schedule to assist all of our residents and visitors. We patrol approximately 9 square miles of island, which includes some 8 miles of beaches. Oak Island has a permanent population of 7,300 by the 2000 census and our tourist population swells to 35 to 40,000 during the summer season. We are committed to serving the public through a partnership with the community to prevent crime, protect life and property and resolve problems.

Being the largest beach community in North Carolina, we are located approximately 30 miles from Wilmington, NC and 60 miles from Myrtle Beach, SC. Our island actually runs east and west so you get the benefits of a full day in the sun, so we encourage you to be careful and use lots of sunscreen. Oh, and the fishing is some of the best!

We encourage you to stop by and visit with us anytime and let us know how we can assist you. You can reach us at 910-278-5595. And thanks again for stopping by.
