Your Profile

About Your Username
You select your own username when you register to purchase an Equifax product. Your username is a minimum of six characters and must contain both letters and numbers. You will be asked to also select a secret question to help you remember your username. A secret question may be “What is your mother's maiden name?" or "What is my favorite teacher's name?"

Your username is used, in conjunction with the password, for secure access to your Equifax account to view the products and services you have purchased.

Your username will be available as soon as you complete your initial purchase, as long as the username you request is not already in use -- in which case you will be asked for a different one. If you change your username, your new username is also available immediately, as long as the new username selected is not already in use.

About Your Password
You select your own password during registration for an Equifax product. Your password is a minimum of six characters and must contain letters and numbers.

Your password, in conjunction with your username, is used for secure access to your Equifax account to view all products and services that you have purchased.

Forgot Your Username and/or Password?
If you forgot your username and/or password, click on "Forgotten Username or Password?". Your password will be available as soon as you complete your initial purchase. After supplying an answer to your secret question, plus some other identifying information, you will be able to reset your password. Your new password will be emailed to the address listed in your Equifax Member Profile.

Updating Your Profile
You can change your username, password, secret question, or email in the Equifax Member Center by clicking on the 'My Profile' link. To go to the Equifax Member Center to change your information, click here. Your password is available immediately after you change it.

You can change your username, password, secret question, or email as often as you like, although we recommend doing so infrequently so that you do not forget them.

Selecting and Changing Your Email Address
When you sign up for any Equifax service, you enter an email address that allows us to contact you with pertinent information. We never share your email address and use it only in ways that we inform you of when you sign up. For more information, see our Privacy Policy.

Why We Need Your Social Security Number
Your Social Security number allows us to access your credit information, while verifying your identity. Your privacy is our primary concern. Be assured that all of your information is secure, and we will never disclose it to third parties without your consent. For more information, see our Privacy Policy.

Newsletters and Product Updates
Equifax sends a monthly newsletter and periodic product updates to offer you tips about credit-related matters, to tell you about exciting new offers, and to keep you informed about new services we develop to help you take control of your credit and privacy concerns.

You can always change your mind about whether or not to receive our newsletter and product updates in the Equifax Member Center.

Security and Encryption

In the United States, you can order all Equifax products online with confidence using Netscape and Internet Explorer, since they support the recommended 128-bit key length encryption SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). International versions support 40-bit encryption.

SSL and 128-bit encryption
If you have Netscape Navigator, simply select 'Help' from the Menu Bar, then click on 'About Netscape' and you will obtain a screen of information including the version.

If you see language referring to 'International Security', then your browser does not support 128-bit encryption. If you see language referring to 'U.S. Security' or 'Domestic Security,' then your browser does support 128-bit encryption.

If you have Internet Explorer, go to a secure page (a secure page uses the prefix 'https'). With your cursor positioned anywhere on the secure page, click on File (from the main menu), then Properties. Click on the tab marked 'Security' and look under the heading 'Privacy strength.' It will show you have 128-bit or 40-bit encryption.

To See If Your Session Is Encrypted
If you are running Netscape Navigator, look in the lower left-hand corner of the browser. You will see a small key as an indication that your session is running in an encrypted mode. When your session is not encrypted you will see a broken key. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will see a lock icon displayed in the bottom right corner of the window when you are on a secure page.

To See If 128-bit Encryption Is Enabled
If you are using Netscape Navigator, it is possible that your 128-bit encryption feature may be disabled.

To verify, select 'Options' then 'Security Preferences' then 'General.' There should be a check next to the 'Enable SSL v2.' Click on the 'Configure' button. The 'Configures Ciphers' window will appear.

Make sure the first item ('RC4 encryption with a 128-bit key') is checked, then click on 'OK'. Microsoft Internet Explorer does not allow you to turn the security features off.
