Bill Gates Plugs Software as a Career Choice

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, addressing students at six different colleges in a three day period, continued his push to promote the technology field as a career choice for today’s college students.

Touting careers in computer science, particularly in the software aspect of the field, Gates made his second collegiate tour in the last two years. Part of Gates message is to alleviate the concern that America will continue to outsource key jobs - an issue Gates indicates is more a function of the capability of the country’s work force than a function of cost cutting measures.

In addressing the students, Gates spoke of the ever-increasing need for computer science graduates throughout North America. In an effort to hook students with his presentation, Gates brought with him a number of technological gadgets including the new Xbox 360 video game console. Gates indicated that software engineers would be among the fastest growing career fields in America and the world over the next 15 years.

Statistics from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics confirm Gates assertion, indicating that computer software engineer job field is indeed projected to be one of the fastest-growing occupations over the next several years. According to the Bureau, the desire of all occupational fields to maximize their investment in their respective computer systems makes the software field a highly viable option for the foreseeable future.
