Concerned about online degree fraud?

With the rise in diploma mills and online degree fraud, potential students interested in online education can get an independent evaluation of distance education programs from a web site.

For example, Geteducated.com is a site that prides itself on helping consumers get educated about online learning, offering free listings to CHEA-accredited colleges and universities. The site also bars advertising from any suspected fraudulent Internet schools. In rating the programs, the site also produces a "Consumer Reports" style best buy concept for a wide variety of online offerings.

The site offers a link to "Best Buys" in a number of categories including: Regional MBA programs, and programs in Human Resources, Education, Engineering and Computer Science. The site also offer a frequently asked questions link that is available to inform potential students of financial aid and admission tips and warnings regarding the frequent upswing in diploma mills and online course fraud.

In the "Best Buy" rankings, the Southeastern part of the country faired exceptionally well. For Education, Valdosta State University in Georgia took home the top spot while in Computer Science it was East Carolina University in North Carolina that earned the top ranking. East Carolina also took home the top spot in AACSB-accredited online MBA programs while North Carolina State took home the top ranking in schools for its distance engineering program.
