FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What does the word "Kenai" mean?
The exact meaning of the word "Kenai" is not real clear. The Dena’ina Athabascan Indians are the native people of the area. In the Dena’ina language, "Ken" translates into "big flat." "Ken’ey" means two big flats with a river cutback, and the word "ken’e" means trees and brush that are growing in a swampy marsh. I've been told it basically translates into "flat, barren land".

You name it - we have it (well almost!). Take your pick from King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Red Salmon, Dolly Vardon, Rainbow Trout, Halibut, Ling Cod, Steelhead, among others. In 1985 the world record 97.4 lb. King Salmon was caught in the Kenai River. The average Halibut caught is in the 30-50 lb. range, but often fish over 200 lbs. are pulled from the waters in Kachemak Bay and Resurrection Bay.
