The La Paloma transaction was named the 2005 "Power Deal of the Year (Americas)" by Project Finance International in itsYearbook 2006 Vinson & Elkins represented Complete Energy Holdings, LLC and its affiliate La Paloma Acquisition Co., LLC in connection with the acquisition of La Paloma Generating Company, LLC, which owns a 1, 022 MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in California. "The financing blended the leveraged finance and project finance markets. Access to both markets created a broad and diverse participation of bank and institutional investors, which maximized benefit to the market and provided best execution to the sponsor."

Additional Rankings and Awards from Project Finance International

The El Cajón 750 MW Hydroelectric Power Project is named the 2004 "Latin America Deal of the Year" by Project Finance International.  Vinson & Elkins represented the bank syndicate in connection with the $680 million construction financing and represented the initial lender in the $100 million bridge financing. This transaction is the largest financing to date in the Mexican power sector and it will be the first hydroelectric power plant to be built in Mexico in approximately ten years.


Project Finance International named the Cameron Highway Oil Pipeline project financing its 2003 Oil & Gas Deal of the Year (Americas). Vinson & Elkins represented JPMorganChase Bank and West LB, the lead arrangers, in this $325 million loan and private placement financing for the construction of an offshore pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico. According to Project Finance International, this deal represented the first true project financing of infrastructure for the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
