"The Texas Public Information Act—Protecting Your (Third Party) Confidential Information"

The Texas Public Information Act (the “Act”) was adopted in 1973. The purpose of the Act is to maintain the people's control “over the instruments they have created,” and requires that information in the possession of a governmental body be generally available to the public. Often a governmental body will possess information involving a third party; such information could be subject to disclosure under the Act.
