Biography
Rob is a member of the firm's worldwide Project Finance and Development Practice Group and has extensive experience in a wide range of energy and infrastructure projects. His principal areas of practice include international oil and gas transactions, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, project development and financing.
In addition to his expertise in the energy sector, Rob also has substantial experience advising on broader corporate and commercial matters, including M & A transactions, joint venture arrangements, corporate reorganizations and a wide range of commercial contracts. Before joining Vinson & Elkins in March 2000, Rob was a senior solicitor in the Energy, Projects and Construction Group of a leading U.K. law firm.

- Representing the lenders in connection with the provision of borrowing base financing to a listed oil company with operations in Gabon and Tanzania
- Represented a U.K. independent oil company in connection with the negotiation of production sharing arrangements in the Indian sub-continent
- Represented a U.S. oil company on the negotiation of production sharing arrangements in West Africa
- Represented a state-owned oil company in Kazakhstan on joint venture arrangements with Chinese investors for the rehabilitation of a producing oil field
- Represented a U.K. independent oil company in the arbitration of various disputes arising out of its production sharing arrangements in India
- Spent a year on secondment to the exploration and production division of a major oil and gas company, advising on a number of transactions in the North Sea and West Africa
- Has represented a number of clients in connection with the acquisition and disposal of upstream assets in a variety of jurisdictions
- Represented a major oil and gas company in connection with ‘alliancing' arrangements with its contractors for a North Sea development (the first such arrangements in the North Sea)
- Represented an international oil and gas company on the sale and charter-back of a floating production facility
- Represented a North American oil company in connection with the negotiation of abandonment security arrangements for a North Sea field
- Represented a gas supplier in connection with long-term sale and transportation arrangements to a 1,200 MW power plant development in the U.K.
- Represented a Portuguese utility in connection with the construction and operation of a gas-fired power station
- Represented a U.S. power company in connection with the acquisition of a majority interest in a gas-to-power project in East Africa
- Represented a U.K. independent oil company in connection with its proposed participation in a gas field development/ pipeline/power project in Bangladesh
- Represented a U.S. water company in connection with the operation of existing treatment facilities and the development of a BOOT project in Ghana
- Represented a U.S. pharmaceuticals company in connection with its participation in a combined heat and power scheme
- Representing a Nordic power company in connection with the disposal of generation assets in a number of European jurisdictions
- Represented the developers of a 100MW windfarm project offshore the U.K. in connection with the long-term sale of its power and renewable benefits
- Represented a private equity firm in connection with its proposed purchase and project financing of an onshore windfarm development in the U.K.
- Represented a U.S. telecommunications infrastructure operator in connection with proposed acquisition, joint venture and construction arrangements in France and Portugal
