Dan Brown: Da Vinci Code

WebQuest Gate 4

Gate 4 of the WebQuest has brought us to the 'Depository Bank of Zurich' web site.

Using the clue we received in passing the last gate, we should remember that the name we were given as the buyer of the relic was Marie Denarnaud. By entering this to gain access to the site we are then asked for an account number.

We don't currently have an account code, but by clicking on the 'password reminder' link at the bottom of the page we receive the clue.

REMINDER:

Marie, your father (knowing how much you love books about Da Vinci) gave you that new American novel The Da Vinci Code. For your account number, look at the middle of Chapter 44.

For those who have read 'The Da Vinci Code' this refers to the Fibonacci series of numbers.

By entering this code, we are directed to a page with the following information:

Accessing live video feed of your safe deposit box…

One moment please…

If video feed does not load in 10 seconds, click here.

After a few seconds this screen disappears and we are re-directed back to the 'Depository Bank of Zurich' web site with an 'Urgent' looking ATTENTION banner flashing at us. The message we receive is:

LE POLICE JUDICIARE DE FRANCE

100 Place Beauvau
75008 Paris

Dear Mademoiselle Marie Denarnaud,
I regret to inform you that we have impounded the contents of your box. The parchment you purchased on-line was stolen. It belongs to a U.S. symbologist, Robert Langdon. We have been unable to reach Mr. Langdon directly, but we have returned his parchment to him in care of his editor Jonas Faukman at the Doubleknight Publishing Group in New York. Mr. Faukman anticipates your concern and is eager to speak to you at your earliest convenience. He can be reached in his office at (212) 782-9920. He urged you to phone him regardless of the hour.

--Bezu Fache
Capitiane, French National Police

The message left by Bezu Fache asks us to call (212) 782-9920. Telephoning this number (yes it does work) brings an automated message that we are to e-mail jfaukman@doubleknightbooks.com and visit www.doubleknightbooks.com.

Sending a message to this email address like we did in Gate 3, gives us a response:

Thank you for your inquiry. I'm currently editing out
of the office but I'll get back to you as soon as I
return. Robert, if this is you please leave me a
message on our employee message board (use
my name to login). I've reset the password to
something we both know - the name of the city
where we had our photo taken together recently.

-Jonas Faukman

[ATTENTION: Due to routine maintenance of the
Doubleknight website, this message will be the only
response you receive from this employee today.]

The clue here is to log into www.doubleknightbooks.com message board as 'Jonas Faukman' with the password 'venice'

On clicking on the message 'Jonas i've got the key' we see a message instructing us to go to www.robertlangdon.com/secretpage.htm
