A Man without a Country
by Authors:
Kurt Vonnegut, Dan Simon
Hardcover
Average Customer Rating:
OK - but read some of his earlier stuff first.
I am a Vonnegut fan. I think he is a fantastic writer and very entertaining. This book was entertaining, short and sweet. However, as you are reading this book, you realize that the only reason this book was published was because of who wrote it. To the other reviewers who said that it totally wasted their time? Get over yourselves. The book takes about 2 hours to read and there are some interesting things in the book, especially if you are not a big fan of our current administration. Therefore, I give it a middle of the road rating. Don't judge Vonnegut's writing skills from this little book, read some of his earlier stuff.
If you like Vonnegut like I like Vonnegut
One you should have for sure if you are a fan, but I think it would be fun to read even if you aren't.
One Man's OPINIONS!
Vonnegut"s "A Man Without a Country" makes a good point that we now have a government that operates by guessing, that doesn't like knowledge or science. However, his entire book (including this very point) is similarly based on guessing and a total lack of data and facts. We've entered a new world in which you're supposed to throw your education away - both the left and the right operate largely on guessing.
I agree with some of Vonnegut's major points - the U.S. is hated for its arrogance, we should have a national healthcare system, and the planet is being seriously damaged by squandering of fossil fuels. However, his sarcasm without supporting background material wears quickly wears thin.
