The Complete Calvin and Hobbes
by Authors:
Bill Watterson
Hardcover Description: An Excerpt from Bill Watterson's Introduction:
"Ive loved comic strips as long as I can remember. As a kid, I knew I wanted to be either a cartoonist or an astronaut. The latter was never much of a possibility, as I dont even like riding in elevators. I kept my options open until seventh grade, but when I stopped understanding math and science, my choice was made. There is great personal satisfaction in attending to detail and quality, and I remain very proud of the standards the strip met day after day. I also liked the responsibility of knowing that, succeed or fail, it was all my own doing. This approach kept the strip very honest and personal--verything having to do with Calvin and Hobbes expressed my own ideas, my own values, my own way. I wrote every word, drew every line, and painted every color. Its a rare gift to find such fulfilling work and I tried to show my appreciation by giving the strip everything I had to offer."

Finally, a compilation in a form worthy of the strip.
This is it! Every strip ever published, in order, nicely bound in a package that will look good on the any bookshelf. Individual volumes (there are 3) will look great on the coffee table.
It's great to read these strips in order and watch the characters and themes develop over the years.
For the kid in us all!
I loved Calvin and Hobbes when I was in High School. A friend of mine would bring in the newspaper each day and I would borrow it just to read this comic adventure!
I have never found any other comic to be so well written, thought out and just completely charming as this one. Many people over the years have tried to imitate it but have not even come close. The wild wagon rides, the great crazy dream sequences, teasing Susie, Rosalyn the babysitter, the transmogrifier and duplicator (all in one cardboard box!), Spaceman Spiff and so much more. Anyone can find a piece of themselves in Calvin and his adventures.
Calvin was always pragmatic - and then there was Hobbes. He was calm, the great thinker, the voice of reason and sanity - and he did all wearing his great jams!
Just writing this makes me remember how much I always enjoyed reading this classic (and I mean that in every sense of the word!) comic and how much it will always mean to me. It's definitely worth the time and money - you won't find anything else even close to its creativity and just plain genius. Thank you Bill Watterson!
Wonderful
I think Calvin and Hobbes is one of the best comic strips ever written, and this collection is the best compilation of strips I've ever seen. It's almost complete (it contains every strip, but some of the art from the paperback collections is missing) and it's beautifully bound. It's hard-covered but not really hard-bound; I wish the pages had been sewn in rather than glued. But it appears to be sturdy enough to last for decades, and if it ever starts falling apart (probably well after I'm dead), some of the plates are pretty enough for my kids to frame. The volumes are heavy; this is for reading on a table or when you're well settled in a comfortable chair.
