    wow. just wow.

Having played Morrowind I have to say that Oblivion is much better all around. It is similar enough that you can leap right in with both feet but different enough to be fresh. The depth of the game is amazing. Stand on a street corner in the imperial city and you will hear potentially useful information, anything from people to talk to about training to good deals on useful items! Between the ever-present critters to bandits, marauders, imps, and nasty daedra just getting from one city to another by cutting cross-country is an adventure all to itself! And not forgetting the first enemy from Morrowind: The Rat! Main quest locations are spread across the map forcing you to go along and discover new ruins/mines/caves/bandit camps/daedra shrines/ or even a secluded farm or two! All in all an awsome game, and I'm not even half done with it!

Is it perfect? No. Is it the best? YES!

I have played "O" for about 100 hours now, using two different characters. I have found a few glitches, and a few things I wish were different, but overall, the game is VERY immersive, and SUPER FUN!

A few things to help those contemplating purchasing this game...

I have five PCs, all with different spechs, and I own two copys of Oblivion, which I tried on various machines before deciding which two to run the game on (for my wife and myself).
A word of advice. The game is NOT PLAYABLE on machines with the minimum stated spec. It runs, but it is not playable. It runs a about one frame every 3 seconds. even at the lowest graphics settings. The main problem is the graphics card. This game is VERY graphics card intensive. The processer spec is not so far off, and the ram spec is ok.

My advice: Consider a G-force 5900 the minimum spec graphics card, the minimum processor a 2600 mhz Pentium 4 or an Athlon 2600, and 1 gig of pc-2700 or faster DDR ram for the minimum ram, and you'll be happy at near min - mid graphics settings. Beths recomended computer specs are about perfect for running the game with all the trimmings.

I know this news will dissapoint some of you. I recomend upgrading your comp. As a previous poster said, the game is well worth it.

By the way, the game is still beautiful even at minimum graphics settings, so if you have at least a G-force 5900 graphics card or ATI equivelant, you will very much enjoy it. But playing with a G-force FX series graphics card is just not possible, no matter what the specs say. I have tried it on two machines which both had adequit processors and ram, and it was slow enough to cause operator death. ;)

So... upgrade your machines, buy "O", and have FUN, folks!

    Incredible

I got Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind when it came out. I heard about how open ended the game was. How you can do whatever you want. I was very intrigued. I got bored with it after only a few hours. Every once in a while I'd start up a new character, only to stop playing after an hour or two. It was not what I expected. The combat was bad, the world itself was dull and repetitive, the NPC's were boring...All that, and many more things have changed in the the newest entry in the series - Oblivion.

Everything that I wanted from Morrowind and beyond is present in this game. You can create any type of character imaginable, from a Knight, to a Mage, to a Theif, to a Vampire, even to a Monk. You can make your character look how ever you want him/her to look with the incredibly in depth face creator.

Once you're finally released into the enormous world, you're free to do whatever it is you wish to do. You can focus on the main quest, or side quests, or just leveling up your character. You don't even have to do the main quest at all, there are many other things to do, like guild quests or just exploring.

To get around the land, you can either walk on foot, ride a horse, or automatically travel to major cities or places you've visited using the "fast travel" system new to this game.

The combat has vastly improved. It's actually fun to fight now.

The graphics are incredible. It's amazing just how far the draw distance is. The world is breathtakingly beautiful. The mountains, trees, water, it's all perfect. The movement in the trees and grass are affected by the weather.

The AI is impressive as well. There are over 1000 NPC's, and they all do their own thing. None of them are pre-scripted. The NPC's even talk to each other, and you can listen in and find out information.

I'm only three days into this game, and it's an amazing experience. I haven't even scratched the surface for what can be done in this game. It feels real. Once you stop playing, you almost feel like you're in the game world. Very few games have done this to me. I haven't gotten bored of this game yet. The more I play and the more I learn about the world, the more fun it is. I think it might be safe to say that this is one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life. This is the game I've been waiting for.
