VHS Tape Description:
It's not Blazing Saddles, but there are some chuckles to be found in Mel Brooks's 1993 spoof of the Robin Hood legend. Cary Elwes is Robin (with a lighthearted jab at Kevin Costner's bad English accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), while Richard Lewis plays an angst-ridden King John, and Roger Rees a snotty Sheriff of Nottingham. Comic David Chappelle has some good moments as the only black member of Robins's noble thieves, and Brooks does his own spin on Friar Tuck: Rabbi Tuchman. The song-and-dance sequences featuring a chorus line of the Merry Men ("We're men / men in tights") is vintage Brooks, but otherwise the film can't get any traction. --Tom Keogh

One of the Best Movies Mel Brooks Made
This is a great movie. It is so funny everyone probably enjoys watching it. It was the first Mel Brooks movie i saw because i was really little and when i saw it and DvD's came out i thought that movie would be one of the first ones to be out. I'm very dissappointed that it is not out on DVD yet. I'm glad there is a box set with the movie in it, but I have most of the movies and don't plan on buying them again just to get one DvD i really want. I can still watch the VHS, but as much as its been watched it is wearing out. I watched it so much i know every line and all the songs for it. I love this movie to death. It needs to be on DVD by itself and not just in a box set that costs a lot.
Coming to DVD on April 4, 2006!
20th Century Fox has announced that they will release "The Mel Brooks Collection" 8-disc DVD set on April 4, 2006. It is supposed to include new editions of "History of the World, Part I," and "Young Frankenstein" along with the new-to-DVD titles of "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," "High Anxiety," "Silent Movie," "To Be or Not to Be," and "Twelve Chairs."
It will also include "Blazing Saddles" (a Warner Brothers release). I believe it will be the same as the "30th Anniversary Special Edition" previously released.
It is likely that these films will not be released individually until after the release of the box set. So, those of us who already own the previously released titles will either have to wait for the individual releases or sell off our used DVDs to make room for the new.
