Hotel Senator House can be found in
a delightful 18th century townhouse, situated on the main
square of Eger, and within a few yards of the castle
ramparts. A
This building situated at 11 Dobó tér was already standing in the year 1727 when the Serb Simon Szabó old "his own house for 90 forints to György Boldogi". 11 Dobó tér was one of the very first patrician town house built after the end of the Turkish occupation. The house was owned for almost 100 years by the Boldogi family (one of the most notable members of the family was György Boldogi who was barber and a surgeon). The Boldogi then sold the house at auction, and although Tamás Turay offered a large sum for it, the house eventually became the property of András Szvetics, who offered an additional 5 forints. Szvetics was a municipal dignitary (Senator). Later the house passed into the hands of Imre Major and Tivadar Szongott. Ask us about the famous wine tasting of this region, tours can be organized!
The town has something to offer everyone, historical monuments, the castle - scene of the famous 1552 siege of Eger - the thermal pools, wine cellars and various places of entertainment. |

How to get
there? Remember
to get a sticker for the M3! The journey takes about two and a half hours by bus or train. Want to
know more about Eger itself! Click here! Once you are there do not miss the new wine-tasting establishment next door. We loved the ice-wine best (jegbor)...

The Senator House at Eger was simply magnificent. We can not say enough about how much we enjoyed it, but as you can see we stayed an extra night over what we had booked. The location, room, decor and coffee house were all wonderful and the staff were very helpful and friendly. This is the best value for money hotel that we have ever stayed in, anywhere in the world. (we have visited over 40 different countries). We should have stayed even longer. Mark Hughes and Kim Wheeler 'We loved it,' says recent visitor. Friendly owners, high levels of comfort and service. Quaint interior with cosy lobby, some old furniture. Bedrooms, with hairdryer, etc, above average for Hungary; stairs unsuitable for disabled. Good buffet breakfast in intimate room. Fair restaurant; livelier Magyar ones next door. Lounges, bar, wine cellar; patio; air-conditioning. Pets welcomed. MasterCard, Visa accepted. |
