The
finest references that a hotel can have rest in
the good opinions of its guests, so while we cannot
possibly document all of the verbal expressions
of appreciation we have received from departing
guests, some wholly unsolicited written guest
comments received later are included below:

Lack of hot water
|
I have
just returned from spending several
nights in Istanbul. Having booked
myself into a hotel recommended by
a famed travel guide book, I was dismayed
by the lack of amenities, such as
hot water, no shower curtain, etc.

Just down the street was an interesting
building, and it was a hotel. I explained
my situation to the manager of this hotel
and within minutes I had their assistance
in moving my things into their establishment.
Open now only five months, the Valide Sultan
Konagi Hotel has 17 spotlessly clean and
brightly decorated, air conditioned rooms,
complete with an in-room hair dryer (and
a shower door).
Mr. Mahmut Kalyonsu, the night manager,
and his polished staff all speak English
and are helpful in every way.
The hotel is situated in the heart of the
old city and is just a short walk to the
major attractions of St. Sophia, the Blue
Mosque, etc.
Quoted rates are $70 single and $100 double,
but discounts are sometimes offered. Breakfast
is included.
I feel so strongly about this place and
the staff that I am passing out their brochures
to travel agents to recommend to their clients.

Dear
Friends at Valide Sultan Hotel,
Thank you so much for another wonderful
visit to your hotel. All of you were
so kind and helpful to us.
We were sorry to leave Istanbul early
because we planned to come back to
Valide Hotel before we left Turkey,
so we could see all of you again and
say goodbye. But with the |
terrorism
in America, we felt we wanted to be
home with our family. We are grateful
to Turkey for the support and help
it gives to America. |

We wish all of you health
and happiness. We thank you Zuhal, Mahmut,
Mehmet, Altug, Ramazan and Tauna etc.
for making our stay so pleasant. We hope
to see you again. Enshallah.

Dear Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi,
I have a confession to make: when I stayed
at your hotel in November ’02 I saw
the framed quote from the San Francisco
Examiner hanging in your Reception and decided
to snoop. I went to see a couple of hotels
near yours that are touted by a famous travel
guide to see if things have changed since
James R. Carrier wrote his letter to the
travel editor back in 1995.
Though I’m not certain, I suspect
one of them was the one Mr. Carrier first
went to stay in since there aren’t
that many in your area listed in the guide.
Well, not only was he right but they are
quite scruffy now, showing little investment
in upkeep. I can’t understand why
they are listed in the guide and you are
not.
Feel free to use this note in your publicity
– you deserve it.
Thanks for your great hospitality and good
luck! S. Anthony Marciniec

We stayed
at your hotel this past May 21st and
22nd, and then again on June 13th
(we were with the Martin Peter Party).
We enjoyed your lovely hotel very
much and you all made us feel very
welcome.
While we were at your hotel we took
this picture of these beautiful little
guest girls who live around the corner.
(I think their building was pink).
|
We like
the picture very much and thought
they would enjoy having a copy. If
it's not too much trouble, could we
ask you to please give it to them?
Thank you very much. |
And thank you again for making our stay
in Istanbul so enjoyable. We look forward
to visiting you again.
Sincerely
Carla and Ambrose
