Submission to Search Directories
One of major factors of search engines algorithm is quantity of inbound links (how many other web sites link to yours). We offer 3 different ways to gather links to your web site: through submission to search directories, link exchange and content distribution.
What's the difference and which method do you need to choose? Ideally, all 3 of them. But for a start, you can choose one or two.
As we already said, incoming links are extremely important, especially in the Google PageRank system. The more external web sites that link to your page, the more important your site is considered, and the higher it is placed in Google's search results. However, not all incoming links have the same weight. Links may be reciprocal ("I link to your web site and in return you link to mine") and none-reciprocal (one-way). The non-reciprocal links, the one's you didn't have to trade for, are given more importance.
Another thing to consider - whether or not your web site and the web site that links to yours have common a theme or are relevant to each other. If you have a computer repair web site, and links are coming from a real estate web site - the importance of those links is minimal.
Submission to search directories serves well to both tasks - your web site receives non reciprocal links and the link is located on the page that is dedicated to your business since all directories have categorized structure.
The Open Directory Project is the most important directory to be listed in. It feeds Google's Directory. There is no charge to get listed in dmoz.org, but since the directory is edited by volunteers, sometimes it can take months to have your web site listed there. They have very strict policies about submissions, and if you don't follow their rules and guidelines, your listing will be declined without any notice. The system "remembers" all submissions – even those that were rejected, and when you try to submit your web site second time, the editor will see the reason why your web site was rejected in the first place. If your web site still has the same problems that caused rejection in the past, the second rejection is unavoidable because an editor has known what was wrong with your web site and what to look for.
We volunteer for the Open Directory Project as editors, so we know how to submit your web site in accordance with their guidelines so your listing will be accepted.
We also work as editors for several other search directories (joeant.com, illumirate.com, etc) so we can help your web site to get listed much faster.
