Cost

For photocopies, transcripts and sound recordings

The cost of copies is $A13.20 (GST free) for every 50 pages or part thereof from a single item or manuscript collection or transcript under normal service, and $A19.80 (GST free) for every 50 pages or part thereof under priority service.

Normal service - processing time 5 working days
Priority service - processing time 3 working days

Cost and delivery time may vary, and priority service may not be provided for copies of some Oral History and Manuscript materials.

Photocopying from other sources

If the material you have requested is not available from the collections of the National Library of Australia, we can contact other libraries both within Australia and overseas to obtain a copy of the material you have requested. The cost of this service is $A27.00 (GST free).

For photographs

Normal service

• Electronic images tiffs or jpegs - $35
• Digitally-derived prints A5 or A4 - $35
• Digitally-derived prints A3 - $45
• Black and white traditional prints, if in stock* - $35
• Colour transparencies, if in stock* - $35
• Postage and packing - $0

Photographs are supplied GST free.

* Stock of transparencies and non-digital prints is kept for some items in the Pictures Collection. For further information contact the Pictures Branch.

Priority service

A priority service for photographic orders is available: triple the normal cost for a three-day turnaround. The three days are calculated as working days from the time we receive a correctly-completed order to the time the images are ready for collection or postage. A maximum of five priority images per client per day applies.

Custom photography

Custom photography, for instance at higher resolutions than set out in the Library’s Standards for Digital Capture, may be negotiated. Fees are negotiable, to a maximum of $250 per image; the maximum price is commonly applied.

Delivery by email

Images sent by email will be in jpeg format and can be up to 2 mb (i.e. 2000 kb) in size. We suggest that you check with your email provider to ensure that you are able to receive attachments of this size. Only one image can be sent per email.

Delivery by FTP

Small batches of images from the Pictures Collection may be delivered by FTP at no extra charge.

For microforms

The cost of photocopies from the microfilm collections is $13.20 (GST free) for every 50 pages or part thereof from a single item and $A19.80 (GST free) for every 50 pages or part thereof under priority service

The cost of microfilming an item from the collection or ordering a copy of a National Library microfilm collection will vary and is available only on application. These charges are GST incluvise.

For inter-library loans

The cost of loans is $A13.20 (GST free) per item and $A26.40 (GST free) per item under priority service if the item is obtained from an Australian library. If the item is obtained from an overseas library, the cost is $26.40 (GST free) per item.
