Loansome Doc

Loansome Doc is a service which allows you to order articles through the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s PubMed.

The National Library of Australia is a Loansome Doc supplier. Orders sent through Loansome Doc from Australia and the Pacific Region can be supplied by the National Library of Australia’s Document Supply Service.

How to Order

You must register with both the National Library of Australia and the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM).

First, download and print our User Registration Form for Businesses and Individuals which is available in both Word & PDF formats. Complete and return the form to us by email attachament, mail or fax. We will then give you our unique identifier (called the ordering Library ID). You will need the ordering library ID before you can fill out NLM's Loansome Doc Registration Form

Once you have received our ordering library ID, go to NLM's Loansome Doc Registration Page and follow the steps to register with NLM.

Once registered with NLM you can start ordering. Your orders will be directed to the us.

* A document may attract a significantly higher fee than the standard fee, either because of its nature or because of copyright. If your request attracts a higher fee, Document Supply Service will seek your acceptance of the price before proceeding with the request.

** Applies to material in the National Library of Australia’s collection only – material sourced elsewhere is inclusive of copyright.

Payment

The National Library of Australia will debit your credit card only for documents supplied. There is no charge if we are unable to supply a document.

Delivery

Documents will be supplied from the National Library’s collection wherever possible. Turnaround time for material supplied from the our collection is usually 3-4 days. Documents not held by us will be obtained from another source. We will obtain these documents as soon as possible, however delivery time cannot be guaranteed. Depending on the source of supply, delivery time will vary from 2 days to up to 10 days, or longer for hard to access documents. If the document is mailed, please add postage time to these turnaround times.

We will make reasonable efforts to obtain any requested documents but we cannot guarantee to supply all documents requested. If a document cannot be supplied you will be notified without delay.

You can select either Web Deliver / Email (PDF), airmail or fax delivery.

Copyright

You may request documents under Sec. 49 of the Copyright Act 1968 if the documents are for the purpose of research or study, you agree not to use them for any other purpose and you have not previously been supplied with a copy by the Library. You will need to sign the copyright declaration on the User Agreement.

If your request does not comply with the fair dealing and library provisions of the Australian Copyright Act 1968 you must use the Copyright Fee Paid Service. There is an additional charge for these requests to cover copyright royalties for material supplied from the National Library’s collections. The charge for material obtained from other sources is inclusive of copyright.

Libraries

Libraries may order online via Loansome Doc by registering with us. Libraries may also make arrangements for their users to order documents from the us through Loansome Doc. Please contact us for details.

Libraries may also use traditional interlibrary loan channels to request their documents from the National Library of Australia or other suppliers. Participants in the Kinetica Document Delivery service (KDD) may request their documents from the National Library of Australia or other KDD participants.
