2005 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby
Prizes & Awards The finale for the 20th anniversary derby was held Saturday, Oct.1 with the awarding of prizes and drawings for remaining prizes. The jackpot winner was Jim Corliss, Corvallis, OR . He is receiving a check for $48,504 and his charter captain, Todd Jackson of Detroit Lakes, MN receives $4410 for his contribution to the fishing endeavor. Lou Detwiler of Homer, sold the winning ticket to Jim and she received $1000. Other prize drawings were done at the dinner on Saturday. The released fish prize drawing for $10,000 was won by Joe Blair of Auburn, NY. To qualify for this drawing, an angler must catch and release a halibut 80 lbs. or larger and have this verified with the boat captain. There were 96 anglers who did this over the summer. Another prize drawing was for $2,000 cash. The winner was David Delaney, Rush City, MN. Everyone who purchases a ticket is included in this drawing. Special kids prizes were added to the derby this year. All kids 12 years and younger were included. There were 3 prizes for kids. The $500 prize went to Kate Evenhouse, Ada, Michigan, the $200 prize went to Shelby Little of Anchorage and the $100 prize went to Harly Heitstuman of Anchorage. Congratulations to these special anglers. There were 5 tagged fish caught this summer worth $500 or $1000. |
