New users are recommended to download the standard edition of GPS Utility However, if you are using Win3.1 then you need the GPS Utility (Lite) Edition (version 1.41). For a description of GPS Utility see the features page.

You may download any of the following files:


  • GPS Utility Standard edition
    Version 4.20.5, Released 12-MAR-06
    This file contains the all the files you need to install and run GPS Utility together with a number of sample files to get you going.

    For a list of changes, please see the history file.

    Download EITHER

    1. the self install exe file (recommended) - run this and GPSU will install itself

    2. the ZIP file (for user who unable to download the EXE file)
      unzip and run the Setup file.

    If you are upgrading and have your own copies of datums, grids or symbol set files, then take care to back them up before installation.


  • GPS Utility - LITE
    Version 1.41 Released 13-NOV-2000
    A 16-bit version for Windows 3.1. Manual Install from ZIP file

    You will need to unzip the file using WINZIP or a similar program and create a new program item or shortcut to the EXE file and make any file type associations you need.


  • GPS Utility - Beta Test Version
    Version 4.20.w Released 8-MAR-06

    The Beta test version is currently not available - see standard version 4.20.5

    This is provided for users who have requested new function (for full details see the changes.txt file in the package). The zip file contains files which have been updated since the last standard release.

    Download Beta GPS Utility Beta test 4.20.w - 1.33M

    You need to install the standard version (4.20.5) of GPSU first. Unzip and place these files in the SAME directory as the existing installation You may also wish to arrange a desktop shortcut to point to the EXE file. If you get an error message about not being able to find grid or symbol set files, then check that the desktop shortcut points to the correct EXE file in the program installation directory.


  • GPS Utility - Alpha Test Experimental Version
    Version A.00.a, Released 23-NOV-04

    This is an experimental version with much advanced and untested function. It should only be used by users who are fully experienced with the standard version. There is no guarantee that any function in this version will appear in the standard version or that the dataset files will be backwards compatible.

    Improvements include:

    • Support for Object Attributes (currenly only for tracks)
    • Rework of Coordinate Format/Projection in Grid definitions
    • User grid support
    • Grids and Datums now moved to Options menu)
    • Support for curved grids on map display
    • Addition of Mercator Projection
    • Automatic calibration of BSB files
    • Position Console improvements to add advanced GPS Information (GPS Quality, HDOP, etc.)
    • Area Search for areas enclosed by a route (not completed).
    • Support for MeriCD GMB files

    Download Beta GPS Utility Alpha test A.00.a - 1.13M

    You need to install the standard version (4.15.5) of GPSU first. Unzip and place these files in the SAME directory as the existing installation You may also wish to arrange a desktop shortcut to point to the EXE file. If you an error message about not being able to find grid or symbol files, then check that the desktop shortcut points to the correct EXE file in the program installation directory.

  • GPSU Import File Converter Utility
    Version 1.16, Released 18-JAN-06
    The purpose of this program is to help with the task of extracting GPS data from ASCII text files and producing a file that is suitable for import to GPS Utility (GPSU). Normally the files will have been produced by a Database or Spreadsheet program in a comma separated value (CSV) or Tab separated form.

    Changes since last version:

    • Deal with double quoted fields better.
    • Deal with extra non-record lines at end of file
    • Correction to date format setting line

  • GPSU Waypoint Print Utility
    Version 1.52
    This utility will print a list of waypoint from a GPSU dataset file.

  • Solar Eclipse Paths

    GPS Utility dataset files (txt) containing routes of Solar Eclipse Paths. This data is derived from "Eclipse Predictions by Fred Espenak, NASA/GSFC".

    1. HYBRID SOLAR ECLIPSE of 8th April 2005 - South Pacific, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela
    2. ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE of 3rd October 2005 - Portugal, Spain, Libia, Sudan, Kenya
    3. TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE of 29 March 2006 - South Atlantic, Africa, Turkey, Russia

    The routes show the lefthand limit, centre line and the righthand limits of the path. See the notes in the files and also Fred Espenak's Eclipse Home Page for more information.

    The files can be loaded into a Registered version of GPS Utility (you may have to increase the number of Waypoints per Route in Options|General). Freeware users will first have to extract a subset of the data relevant to their area of interest by editing the file with a text editor.
