Some Yahoo! services, such as Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Address Book, require you to periodically enter your password even though you are already signed in. They do this to protect you in case you forgot to sign out.
Password prompting allows you to set how often you will be asked by Yahoo! to supply your password.
For example, if you chose "Every 1 Hour" in the Password Prompting section and you signed into Yahoo! at noon, you would be able to get to your Yahoo! Mail without supplying your password until 1 p.m. After 1 p.m., you would be required to enter your password again.
The password prompting option can be changed by visiting your Yahoo! Account Information Member Information section. "Prompt for Password" is the final option on the page in the General Preferences section. Choose from the pull-down menu how often you would like to be prompted for your password.
Yahoo! Mail users: If you are being repeatedly asked to enter your password when trying to sign in to your Yahoo! Mail account, then you may be using the incorrect URL/web address to access Mail.
If you are using a desktop shortcut, bookmark, or browser Favorite to access the Yahoo! Mail sign-in page, or if you have Yahoo! Mail set as your home page, please make sure you are specifically going to http://mail.yahoo.com and not a different URL that contains any additional characters. You may need to reset your bookmark to the above-mentioned URL.
You can also go to the Yahoo! home page and click on the "Mail" link. This will take you to the correct sign-in page.
