There are many streams with grayling, rainbow trout and all species of salmon. At every corner there seems to be another lake teaming with fish. Moose and bear are very common and wolves are there but often not seen. Listen on a clear calm evening and they will make their presents known. Along this highway you will pass through Denali Park, glimpse Mount McKinley, and finally end up in Fairbanks. Richardson Highway 4: Driving the entire 360 miles of the Richardson Highway, from Fairbanks to Valdez, is certainly a memorable experience. The highway meets the Alaska Highway, at the town of Delta Junction. This is the end of Alcan, some 1,420 miles to its beginning in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The Richardson Highway runs south from here and crosses the Alaska Range at Isabel Pass, elevation 3,000ft. It winds through the Wrangell Mountains and cuts through the Chugach Range before descending to the port of Valdez. Worthington Glacier is easily accessible from the highway near Thompson Pass, 2771ft. Seward Highway 9: View Seward Highway Map: Recognized for its scenic, natural, historical and recreational values, the 127-mile Seward Highway Runs between Anchorage and the port town of Seward at the head or Resurrection Bay. Sterling Highway 1, kenai peninsula RV Parks: Two segments of the Sterling Highway have been recognized by the State of Alaska as scenic byways. The 38-mile stretch from the Seward Highway junction to Skilak lake road is recognized for scenery, natural setting, recreational activities, historic significance and wildlife viewing. The same is true for the 23-mile stretch from Anchor Point to Homer, which is also noted for cultural and archaeological qualities. Taylor Highway 5, Alaska campgrounds: The Taylor "Top of the World" Highway is so-called because of the feeling one gets when driving along a mountain ridge. The glacier tours via boat offered from both places seem to be comparably priced and brochures and internet info make them appear quite similar. We are most interested in seeing calving glaciers and wildlife (whales, otters, seals, puffins, etc.). Wondering if there are recommendations as to which area is the better experience.
