Water Level and Tidal Current Predictions

This system will allow you to obtain tidal predictions computed by CO-OPS for more than 3000 water level stations and tidal current predictions for more than 2700 tidal current stations. The publication of full daily predictions is limited to locations referred to as "reference stations". The remaining stations are referred to as "subordinate stations". Tidal predictions for the subordinate stations can be obtained by applying specific differences to the times and heights of tides at the specified reference stations. Tidal current predictions for subordinate stations can be obtained by applying specific time and speed differences to the times and speeds of tidal currents at the specified reference station.

These pages provide a listing of the annual tide predictions for 3000 plus subordinate stations with tidal differences already applied. These differences are located in the prediction header. They also provide annual tidal current predictions for the tidal current reference stations as well as the adjustments to calculate the tidal currents at the 2700 subordinate stations. At present the user must make their own calculations to produce tidal current predictions at subordinate stations. We are working on a system to make these calculations automatically.

The list of subordinate stations has been broken down into states and other areas in which predictions are available. Each state is further broken down into regions. Each region provides a list of stations in the area. The stations are listed geographically; thus, stations that are near each other along the shoreline are similarly located in the listing. This simplifies locating a station of interest. It is important to note that tide stations and tidal current stations are separate listings. Tide stations are normally located along the shoreline; at a pier, jetty, breakwater or other physical structure. Tidal current stations are always located away from the shoreline; many are located in or near the channels of the waterway.

A description of the information provided in this section can be found by "clicking" on one of the found throughout the listing of subordinate stations.
