You can advertise your site in the search engines so that you appear at the top of the paid listings. Every time a user clicks and enters your site you pay an agreed amount to the search engine. This way you know exactly how much you will pay for visitors and you only pay for the visitors you get.

How much you pay is up to you, but it is rather like an auction. The more your competition is willing to pay, the more you are forced to pay. For example to appear at the top of the PPC listings of a search engine for the keyword 'Credit Card' you will have to pay £14 - £20 per click. To get this same position for cabbages might cost you about 10p !
