San Francisco Pit Bull Ordinance
The San Francisco Department of Animal Care and Control is offering free spaying and neutering for pit bulls covered under a new city ordinance.  The Department also offers a check-list to determine if your breed of dog is covered under the ordinance.

Fastrak
Caltrans is planning to add even more Fastrak-only lanes to the Bay Bridge toll plaza.  The Fastrak web site explains how the service works and offers ways to sign up for Fastrak online.

Earthquake Maps
The U.S. Geological Survey and the California Geological Survey are releasing new maps two new geological maps of the most heavily populated parts of the Bay Area. The first map shows the young geologic deposits which can liquify in case of an earthquake. The second map shows the likelihood of liquefaction in each region.

Starting Thursday, it will be illegal to dump old computers and most other electronic gear in the regular landfills. The state of California has an Electronic Product Management site that offers information on recycling the materials. Several major electronics manufacturers have a site called eRecycle with more resources. The Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition maintains a list of Bay Area recycling operations that accept electronic refuse.

FEMA New Year's Weekend Floods Disaster Information
Starting Saturday, February 4th, people and businesses that suffered property losses in the New Year's Weekend storms and floods can register online with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Victims can also register by telephone by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
