Search terms are the words and phrases a user types into a search engine to find a site. When you pick the right search term to lead users to your site, users searching for your exact product or service will find you. If you pick the wrong search term, people won't be able to find you. Or worse, people will click through to your site, realize its not what they want and click back again costing you money for bandwidth, usage and perhaps paying for the click.

So how do you choose your search term? The simplest way is to type your keyword into the various search engines and see if the top results match or are close to your product or service. Then look at your competitors’ sites and see what search term and keywords they're targeting. There are tools available that tell you exactly how many people searched on a keyword phrase the previous month.
