Georgia to allow Bible classes, Ten Commandments displays
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

ATLANTA A bill allowing elective classes on the Bible to be taught in public high schools has been signed into law by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue.

The law requires that the Bible courses, if they're offered, be taught "in an objective and nondevotional manner with no attempt made to indoctrinate students."

Perdue also signed another bill permitting display of the Ten Commandments at courthouses. Both bills passed the state Legislature by comfortable margins.

Critics question their constitutionality but say they'll wait to see how the laws are implemented before deciding whether to challenge them in court.
