Alternate Side Parking Rules
Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended on Wednesday through Friday, April 19-21, for holiday observance.
See the 2006
calendar for all scheduled holiday suspension dates.
On other dates, alternate side parking regulations are
in effect citywide. Alternate Side Parking Rules may also
be suspended because of snow
or other weather conditions; call 311 for the latest information.
FDR Drive Reconstruction
The southbound FDR Drive will be closed between East 96th Street and East 42nd Street from 1:00 AM on Saturday, April 22 to 5:00 AM on Monday, April 24. There will be detours
and parking restrictions.
City Previews Models of Proposed Street Furniture Designs
The Department of Transportation previewed
models of the proposed automatic toilets, newsstands
and bus shelters that will be installed citywide under
the coordinated street-furniture franchise in New York
City. There will be a public
hearing on the street furniture franchise on Thursday,
May 11.
Mayor Bloomberg Announces Recommendations to the Staten Island Transportation Task Force
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced the preliminary recommendations presented to the Staten Island Transportation Task Force on easing traffic congestion on Staten Island.

Safe Routes to Schools
As part of its Safe Routes to School project, DOT's consultant has completed
reports for 18 school locations. Reports for a total of 135 school sites will be completed within the next few months. These reports provide
for enhanced traffic controls for improving safety for students travelling to and from school.
Truck Route Management and Community Impact Reduction Study Preliminary Recommendations
DOT released a summary of its consultant’s recommendations (in pdf format). The full draft study and a third round of community meetings are expected to be held by the end of April.
New Pedestrian Plaza in Downtown Brooklyn
DOT is introducing a new pedestrian plaza in Downtown
Brooklyn. Beginning Saturday, May 6th, Willoughby
Street will be closed
to traffic west of Pearl Street and will be one-way eastbound
between Pearl Street and Jay Street.
DOT Introduces City's First Credit Card Friendly Parking Meters
DOT Commissioner Iris Weinshall introduced the Citys first credit card friendly parking meters. To increase the convenience of on-street parking, during a six-month pilot project beginning November 21, 200 muni-meters in the Theater District from West 43rd Street to West 56th Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway will accept credit cards as an additional payment option.
Sunday Meter Regulations Are No Longer In Effect
In accordance with legislation enacted by the City Council, beginning Sunday, November 13, 2005, parking meters and muni-meters no longer have to be paid on Sundays.

The NYC Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Study is a cooperative effort of NYCDOT, MTA New York City Transit and the New York State Department of Transportation to bring BRT to NYC to improve the speed and reliability of the bus system.
The list of BRT Corridors has now been refined to 15 (+2) Potential BRT Corridors with the highest probability of success and potential benefit. |

DOT Requests for Proposals (RFPs) will now be offered on-line.
Purchase NYC Parking Cards On-Line
DOT announces that NYC Parking Cards can now be purchased on-line with a credit card, as well as by downloading an application, visiting a CityStore, or calling 311. The card can be used in all municipal parking facilities, all muni-meters, and selected single-space meter locations.
Flight 587 Memorial Project
The City of New York is advancing plans for the creation of a memorial to honor the memory of the 265 lives lost in the Flight 587 tragedy on November 12, 2001 in Belle Harbor, Queens.
DOT Walk to School Project
The Walk to School project aims to improve children’s health, tackle traffic congestion and pollution, and improve safety. The City is working with pilot schools to encourage children to walk to school, and provide them with the skills to do so safely.
