Salamanca Junior Study Abroad - Camp
From its dazzling beaches to its ancient castles, Spain is a country as diverse as the cultures which have influenced its art, architecture, music and lifestyle. It is a land where cathedrals and castles are interspersed with skyscrapers, where modern rock mixes with flamenco guitar, and night clubs compete with cozy "tapas" bars. Spain offers some of the world's most famous museums, resorts, and festivals, making it a unique and enchanting destination.
Known as “La Dorada,” or Golden City, for the glow of its sandstone buildings. It is one of the 5 Spanish cities declared by UNESCO as a “Mankind Heritage” site. The world's second oldest university is here, boasting a student population of 30,000 (5,000 of whom are foreigners) that provides a lively atmosphere and nightlife. Enjoy concerts, lectures, and theater, or congregate in the famous Plaza Mayor.
School Facilities: Salamanca Residential Summer Camp is located in the old walled part of the city's center. The facilites include classrooms, large conference room, a video room, accomodations area (dormitory style), dining room and infirmary. The building is typical Salmantino in design and is U-shaped surrounding its own courtyard. Also contained on campus are the walled sports facilities which include a soccer field, basketball court, handball and volleyball court, and in-line skating rink. Participants can enjoy the swimming pool, outdoor cafe and sunbathing areas at a near-by swim club. Accommodations offered shared bedrooms with shared bathrooms throughout the residential zone of the campus building.
About 60% of the student are Spanish (English and Spanish are taught at the campuses), other participants are from: USA, Canada, England, Italy, Germany, Russia, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, France, Poland and the Ukraine. Capacity is 210 residential students.

Lodging & Meals: Dormitory/residence with 3 meals/day + snack
Supervision: There will be a camp counselor available for every group of 10 to 12 students. The counselor will remain with the group on a twenty-four hour a day basis and will take care of any individual needs each participant may have. Each counselor will coordinate the sports and activities for the group to participate in. The counselor will always accompany their assigned group on the excursions organized by the camp off of campus grounds. An entire team of camp employees consisting of group coordinators, head counselors and their staff, and teachers will oversee the day-to-day care, activity and learning for each participant. The Director and Head Coordinator of the summer camp are present daily and supervise the camp staff to ensure a safe and active learning environment for all camp participants.
Participants will room in a dormitory located on the camp premise. Dormitory rooms are assigned according to age and sex and will have 6-12 students per room.
This is a very structured program with many activities. Free time each day is built into the camp schedule, however most participants are not able to leave the camp premises unaccompanied and must abide by camp staff rules and regulations pertaining to lights out, policies and procedures, etc.
**EXCEPTION:
Only those students born 1991 or before and whose parents have given advanced, written permission to AmeriSpan will be permitted to leave camp grounds, unescorted. The camp personnel is aware that older, senior students may have a certain level of freedom and independence and for this reason will permit THREE unescorted off-campus trips per student during each two-week session. The hours permitted are from the afternoon snack time until 23:30 hours.
The specific days that the unescorted, off-campus trips are permitted are established by each camp's director.

Airport Pickup: Included. At the time of arrival, a driver/program staff member who will be waiting in the airport arrivals hall and will be holding a sign with student's name/program name. All students are then taken directly to the registration office on campus. Departing participants are escorted to airline check-in. Beyond passport control, teen participants may only be looked after by airport staff. Please give sufficient notice to the airline if your teen will need to be accompanied from passport control to the gate.

Sunday arrival and Saturday departure to/from camp. (Extra nights are NOT available).
Camp Uniform: $95 (please provide size on application form) This is optional; nevertheless, it is recommend by the program staff and will help limit the amount of luggage. The uniform consists of six t-shirts, one sweatshirt, two pairs of shorts, and one cap.
*PLEASE NOTE: there are no optional sports activites (ie: golf, horseback riding, tennis) offered at this residential camp location for an additional cost.
English is also taught at the camp BUT not offered through AmeriSpan
