Doing Business in International Markets


The Office of Commercial and Business Affairs (CBA) plays a major role in coordinating trade and investment matters to support U.S. firms doing business overseas. The CBA, headed by Special Representative for Business Affairs J. Frank Mermoud, coordinates State Department advocacy on behalf of American businesses and offers problem-solving assistance in opening markets, leveling the playing field, and resolving trade and investment disputes.

Assistant Secretary Wayne Speaks on U.S.-Turkey Relations
In his March 28 remarks
to the American Turkish Council Conference, Assistant Secretary Wayne noted Turkey's new importance "as an energy hub" between Caspian Basin and Central Asian energy reserves and European and world markets.  "As we have in the past, the U.S. and Turkey will be cooperating on European energy security for years to come," he said.
