With contributions from museums such as the Smithsonian as well as its own exhibits, the Las Vegas Art Museum continues to be the leader when it comes to culture.
Recognized as the first fine arts museum in Southern Nevada, the museum first opened in 1950 and was known as the Las Vegas Art League in Lorenzi Park. Through the years the museum has undergone quite a transformation. It is now located next to the Sahara West Library and can be found in the National Registry of Art Museums.
With works by artists such as Botticelli, Gaugin, Titian and Manet, the museum continues to add to its vast and diverse collection. Works run the gamut from oil paintings all the way to grainy surrealist pieces.
The museum also works hand in hand with the Clark County School District to mentor aspiring artists. Art competitions are held throughout the year with the entries put on display at the museum.
In addition to the collaboration with schools, the museum also offers adult art classes. Students can get tutored in every art form ranging from drawing to sculpting. A gift shop is located near by and is the perfect place for guests to take home their own piece of art, or the utensils they need to create one of their own.
No matter if you are a fan or realism or impressionism, the Las Vegas Art Museum will leave you content as it continues to add to its diverse collection of masterpieces. |
