On April 11th, it was announced that FLW Outdoors was nominated for a Sports Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Innovative Technical Achievement. The producers of FLW Outdoors use advancements in technology to capture the best footage to create a new level of entertainment for the viewers of competitive fishing. Also nominated for the category are CBS’ coverage of professional golf and Fox Sports’ Major League Baseball coverage. The winners will be announced on May 1st at the 27th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in New York City. FLW Outdoors recently added a Striper Series to their lineup. Earlier this week, MPI made the announcement that they will continue their coverage on the saltwater side and will produce the 2006 Striper Series Championship. Look for the episode this Winter. I got a call from the Mogan Man yesterday. He has been in Charlotte Harbor all week. Out of habit I asked the age old question, “What are ya doin’ there?” I have no idea why I asked because I already knew the answer… “Fishin’!” Capt. Blair has been there all week doing some top-secret research and development. Chris Russell and Al Noraker from Eagle Claw joined Blair to test out some new rods and reels. While trying to get more info about these new outfits, Blair told me stories about Chris landing a 25 lb Blackfin Tuna, a Bonita that was cut in half by a Baccaruda (that’s the Wiggonics version of Barracuda), and a 145 lb Tarpon that was lost when a school of Mackerel broke the line. He went on to tell me about the Cobia that Al landed for dinner and the others that were released. Very little information was given up about these outfits except the fact that all of the fish they caught were caught on these rods. Blair did say something along the lines of “They are incredible, dude!” and I thought I heard him mumble something about a Mogan Combo. But enough of that top-secret stuff… This Sunday, FSN will air FLW Outdoors Redfish Series from Englewood, FL. Team Lazer Sharp, Blair “Mogan Man” Wiggins and the “Taddmanian Devil” Tadd Vandemark, make the top-five! Follow five of the worlds best redfish teams as they go through the triumphs and tribulations of tournament fishing. The show airs at 11 AM so set your recorders if you plan to be out on the water. Mogan Maniacs, get ready! Starting July 2nd a brand new season of Addictive Fishing will be making waves as they line up back to back with FLW Outdoors on FSN. Lawns will not get mowed, shelves will not get built, and boat trailer tires might go flat. Sunday mornings will never be the same. This two hours of television filled by two of the highest rated outdoors programs is so powerful it should have a warning label! Tadd is on his way to Port Aransas, TX to get set for the next leg in the Redfish Series, Blair comes home from his fishing trip before joining Tadd in Texas, and Mr. Producer settles into a pile of new footage for AF.
