SouthlandThe South Coast region is made up of six districts - The Catlins, Invercargill City/Bluff, Stewart Island, Eastern Southland, Northern/Central Southland and Western Southland. The province is home to two national parks - New Zealand's newest, Rakiura, covering most of Stewart Island and the country's largest, Fiordland, which has World Heritage status. Dolphins, Sea Lions, Seals and Penguins are just some of the wildlife to be seen along with the New Zealand icon, the Kiwi, which can be spotted in their natural habitat on Stewart Island. There are many hiking tracks and heritage trails in Southland and the rivers are a draw card for international anglers along with Southlands architecture, museums and art galleries. Bed and breakfasts and farm stay accommodation in Southland offers a real opportunity to get to know the regions friendly people.
