ADSL broadband Internet service is now widely available in the United
States, Canada, South Korea, Japan and many other nations. ADSL
penetration in Europe is growing rapidly. In China, the growth of
broadband Internet services, including ADSL has mushroomed.
Many countries are recognizing the strategic importance broadband
services to their economies. They are enacting legislation to further
promote the expansion of broadband Internet services. This is achieved
by eliminating telephone monopolies and promoting alternative broadband
services.
In North America, where cable Internet access has been widely available,
ADSL service providers must compete with the cable companies for customers.
This competition has resulted in competitive prices and improved customer
service.
