I think it does not make sense to date someone who doesn't speak your own language. If you want really close relationship with a person you must speak the same language, otherwise your connection will be only physical and you will not be together for a long time.

Agree with the previous posting. I also had similar experience. I was dating a girl who spoke Spanish only and she was like an alien for me. I started learning Spanish and after some time I discovered in her amazing personality and intellect. I was also suprised by myself, because I hated foreign language at school and didn't think it must be interesting at all.
