Married with Children

According to a recent poll, about 50 percent if brides and grooms do not wish to have kids attending their wedding. Whether or not you consider your wedding family time or an adult occasion has a lot to do with inviting kids to your wedding. If you think formal events and kids are like oil and water, you probably want to have an adult only wedding ceremony. If you want kids to be part of every moment of your life, kids are a must on your big day. There is no right or wrong decision, but there are issues to consider with either.

Children are the most important element of family life, so you perhaps only feel comfortable with the presence of children around you. You may not want to push your guests leave home without their children. Some people may decide not to attend without their children. It is not a good idea to create tension between you and your reception guests with children.

If you are getting married for the second time, you and your groom are likely to have children. Leaving them out of the ceremony may leave you feel incomplete. If you already have children, from a previous marriage you may not want to celebrate without your children.

To make it easier on the kids and your guests, you may have a separate play area for them. If the wedding is at a hotel, you could arrange for a room with a babysitter and toys. In a separate area, the children could enjoy some more interesting activities such playing with toys and playing games. The "children's" area gives parents an opportunity to check on them several times during the reception.

If you imagine a perfect wedding ceremony where everything goes exactly as planned, you probably should not invite children to participate. Weddings are usually long and formal events, the exact opposite of what kids consider a good time. Children don't enjoy long formal events and they will sure make everyone hears it loud and clear. Some people may think of having a night out without the kids as a mini vacation. A night out without the kids can bring some of the spark back into marriage.
As an option to accommodate your guests with children offer baby-sitting. Baby sitting can be set up at a friends house or in a hotel room where you get married.

Remember that your wedding should be a joyous occasion for you and your guests. Children are children and they normally can't sit still for long periods of time! If you invite them, keep them entertained! Good luck on your upcoming wedding!
