Precor Elliptical Trainers - the first, the best.
Precor started the elliptical revolution off in 1995 when they introduced the first elliptical trainers to the market. Dozens of other health and fitness manufacturers have jumped on the elliptical bandwagon since those not so distant days, introducing their own versions of elliptical riders of varying quality and at various prices. In the face of such competition Precor elliptical trainers have carved out a niche in the market that if it had to be summed up in one phrase could be, "We were the first, now we're the best".
If you are looking for quality construction. quality components, a great aerobic workout and cutting edge fitness technology, you won't go far wrong with a Precor elliptical machine. In fact, I could cut out the word "far", and just say "You won't go wrong with a Precor elliptical machine".
So, what do Precor Elliptical Trainers have to offer?
As mentioned on the home page, elliptical trainer technology is relatively new and many of the newer features found on elliptical machines, especially at the top end, are covered by jealously guarded or selectively and/or expensively licensed patents.
What does that mean to us poor souls who just want to rev up our heart rates and burn a few calories?
Well, you are unlikely to find all available features on any one elliptical. You will need to decide which features are most important to you and then find the elliptical machine that provides them.
So, what do Precor elliptical's have to offer?
For home use Precor offer the choice of five elliptical trainers. (They also produce four other models for the commercial market, which is good to see. The commercial market is a grueling test bed for fitness equipment and the lessons learned there filter down to result in improved home fitness equipment.)
Three of the models, the EFX 5.23, EFX 5.21i and the EFX 5.17i feature patented CrossRamp technology which allows the incline of the footpads to be adjusted incrementally between 12 and 35 degrees depending on the model. This allows different muscles to be targeted and adds variety to a lower body workout.
Unfortunately models with the CrossRamp feature have static arm bars. For a dual action workout with arm bars Precor offer the EFX 5.33 and the EFX 5.19 which, you guessed it, don't feature the CrossRamp technology.
Depending on the model, other features include,
- 20 resistance levels
- A nice long 18 inch stride length
- Super smooth elliptical motion
- Quiet Operation
- Low Maintenance - quality components and superior construction
- Space-Efficient - 80in X 32in with handlebars fitted. Easy to move, they fit through most standard doorways.
- 9 programs
- Quick start program
- 2 user IDs for personal data storage.
Warranty: Frame-Lifetime, Parts-10 years
Best of all, Precor is not shy when it comes to guaranteeing its elliptical's. It is confident enough in the quality of its products to offer a lifetime warranty on the frame and just about an industry best of 10 years on parts and wear items.
The price of quality
All this good stuff comes at a price. Ballpark figures range from $2600 for
the EFX 5.19 to $4200 for the top of the range EFX 5.23. Precor elliptical's
are certainly not cheap, then again quality never is. Only in the long run.
