  • RNLI Lough Derg Involved in Major Disaster Exercise

    A major disaster exercise involving a simulated fire in the engine room of the passenger vessel The Spirit of Killaloe took place on Lough Derg on Sunday, 2 April 2006. The operation was planned to test the response of all emergency services in the event of major incident on the water.

  • RNLI Newcastle Crewmember Awarded Trophy for Excellence in Exams

    William Chambers, deputy second coxswain with the Newcastle RNLI lifeboat station has been awarded the Paul Le-Riche Trophy for achieving the highest marks of an RNLI volunteer in shore-based based exams. The award is given by Ocean Training annually and is in memory of Paul Le-Riche, a crewmember at St. Helier Lifeboat station in Jersey, who died tragically at sea in 2001, before achieving an Royal Yachting Association qualification.

  • Wexford RNLI name new lifeboat Philip Robert Booth in quayside ceremony

    Wexford RNLI today officially named their new D class inshore lifeboat Philip Robert Booth at a ceremony held at Wexford Quay. The lifeboat, which has been in service since last July, has already launched 9 times, rescuing 14 people and two dolphins.

    Search and rescue statistics issued today (21 February 2006) show the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteer crews in Ireland rescued 1,161 people in 2005, approximately an average of 22 people each week.

  • HOWTH GETS NEW RNLI LIFEBOAT AND FIRST CALL OUT

    Howth RNLI Lifeboat station today took delivery of a brand new D-Class lifeboat "George Godfrey Benbow", which was called out shortly after arrival. While the volunteer crew were out on familiarisation training with the new lifeboat they were requested by the Irish Coast Guard to assist in a search off Portmarnock.
