Jim Boykin, of We Build Pages, Interviewed

Aug
1

I wanted to interview Jim Boykin, from WeBuildPages a while ago, but some of my questions were evil and it took a while to get around to do the interview. I recently came up with a new list and asked Jim many SEO business related questions, in large part because he runs one of the few SEO companies that I feel comfortable refering leads to. At the recent WebmasterWorld conference I had not one, but two different people come up to me and thank me for refering them, which makes me feel great for recommending them.

In our interview Jim gives lots of good web design and link building tips, and he also confirmed the rumour that WeBuildPages will be entering the original content production market!

To me it seemed like that market was waiting for more competition, especially considering that some of the other networks that do it place competing ads on the same pages that webmasters pay to have create.

Hi David
thanks for the kind comments :)

Hopefully I can keep finding and posting stuff you like. Best of luck with the new blog
cheers
Aaron

I checked out http://www.webuildpages.com/ on
http://www.touchgraph.com/TGGoogleBrowser.html
and it seems he is in a bit of a spammy galaxy...hair loss, free government money, mortgages and debt, online college degrees, etc

In some regards you are right.

for most of the lifespan of webuildpages.com, the backlinks and the "neighborhood" were certainly not "natural". No, I put links on clients sites, I traded with anyone, I interlinked, I bought links, etc, etc...in fact, many people looked at our backlinks, and then would buy those same backlinks to their site (that's what you're seeing on the touchgraph). That put us in "neighborhoods" scattered
across the web.

I guess I'd start by saying that touchgraph is not really accurate and anyway, run your own site and tell me how accurate you feel it reflects your site.

A much better accuracy of your neighborhood is using Google's "Related:" search (example: related:www.webuildpages.com).

You'll still see some "far out" places from what "should" be my neighborood place...but it does look a little better....

You'll get some "far out" when you're buying, or trading, or in any way link dealing...that's the nature of the beast...and to be honest, yesterday I didn't care about those things, but today I do. Webuildpages.com is certainly not totally clean...I'd never say it was...I also can't help who is going to go around and buy common links that we do or did once buy.

On the flip side, I think I do know how to do things right, and for an example check out related:www.jimboykin.com - now that's a neighborhood I'm proud to be in. All natural, just the way I like em. (there can be my "practice what I preach" site if you need an example).

I can't run from the past, and I'm not saying I'm totally clean today...but I can say that I strive for doing the best I know at any given time.
