Warden Message: Suriname Air Travel Issues

Consular Affairs Bulletins

Americas - French Guiana, Suriname
26 Apr 2006

U.S. Embassy Paramaribo issued the following Warden Message  on April 26, 2006:

The U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo wishes to advise American citizens in Suriname and French Guiana that Suriname Airways (SLM) is experiencing equipment difficulties which may cause service delays. This situation has prompted the Embassy to advise official American travelers to use British West Indies Airways until SLM has returned its regular aircraft to service.

The aircraft that services SLM's Caribbean route is undergoing repairs, during which time SLM is renting other aircraft from regional carriers to honor its schedule, however service delays may continue.

Americans living or traveling in Suriname or French Guiana are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo, Suriname, through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov. The Embassy is located at Dr. Sophie Redmondstraat 129, telephone (011)(597) 472-900, web site http://paramaribo.usembassy.gov.
