Fort Wainwright soldier dies at Stryker base in Iraq

Another soldier from Fort Wainwright Army Post has died while stationed in Iraq, the U.S. Army Alaska reported Wednesday.

The soldier, whose name won't be released until today, died of noncombat injuries. He was assigned to the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team based in Fairbanks.

The soldier was found dead Tuesday at his forward operating base in Mosul. The incident is under investigation.

The Stryker Brigade deployed to Iraq in August 2005 and has lost 11 soldiers to combat injuries. Two more soldiers assigned to the brigade have died of noncombat injuries. A total of 26 military members with ties to Alaska have died in combat and noncombat situations since the war in Iraq began.
