Redmond Oregon
is located on the eastern side of the Oregon Cascade Mountain
Range, and is considered the geographical heart of Oregon.
It is located 15 miles from Bend, the
largest city in Central Oregon. The City of Redmond was incorporated
on July 6, 1910. Redmond operates the region's only commercial
airline airport, Roberts
Field. and is considered one of the fastest growing industrial
and residential communities in the State of Oregon, currently
hosting 13,780 residents; the growth rate continues to be
about 6% per year. The Redmond
School District encompasses 556 square miles and operates
6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school.
The climate is considered semiarid with an annual precipitation
of only 8.l64 inches, so the residents and visitors enjoy
many sunny days all year long.
Redmond
attracts many outdoor enthusiasts. For world-class rocking
climbing adventures there is Smith
Rocks State Park just north of the city. For the Fisherman
the city is located close to Lake
Billy Chinook, Shuttle
Lake, Blue Lake, and Haystack reservoir. For the skiers,
Redmond is close to
Mt. Bachelor and Hoodoo
Ski Resorts.
Operation Santa Claus
is just two miles from Redmond, it has the largest herd of
domesticated reindeer in the U.S.
The
Crooked River Dinner Train is a good way to enjoy the
incredible views of the Central Oregon High Desert. The train
takes a 38.5 mile, 2.5 hour route along the Crooked River
Valley between Redmond and Prineville.
