MISTY RIVER, an all female acoustic quartet, calls the Pacific Northwest home. These talented women masterfully arrange their own material which includes award-winning original songs, traditionals and other favorite songs and tunes from many genres.
Yet, they are probably best known for their "stop you in your tracks" vocal harmonies where each member contributes a different lead vocal timbre that makes the whole "greater than the sum of its parts". Add some astonishing musicianship and you have ... MISTY RIVER!

GOOD NEWS & HEALTH UPDATE FROM CAROL HARLEY – December 2005
On July 15, 2004 came the public announcement that in April I had been diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, a rare form of cancer of the bone marrow/blood. During a regular, yearly visit to my doctor, they found that my white count was very elevated like 225,000. A normal person would be 4,000 – 7,000.
After a month of looking at all my options on how to treat this life threatening cancer, I entered a year long clinical trial at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR and successfully got the Leukemia under control and into 99.9% remission. Though NOT A CURE, the 2 chemotherapy meds that I self-administer and take daily (Gleevec & Interferon) will HOPEFULLY keep the Leukemia at bay for the rest of my life – and so far, so good!

ALBUM DESCRIPTIONS:
"MIDWINTER--SONGS OF CHRISTMAS" (Released December 2004)
Misty River's new Christmas CD is a stunning collection of traditional favorites, little known classics, and original songs. The result is a fresh yet intimate celebration of the holiday season, with Misty River's spine-tingling voices, tasteful song selection and creative instrumentation setting Midwinter apart from the run-of-the-mill Christmas release.
"WILLOW" (Released June 2004)
Misty River branches out from its traditional Americana roots to explore new rhythmic, instrumental, and harmonic colors with its third CD release, WILLOW. The long-awaited studio follow-up to the band's popular live album, WILLOW is a 14-song collection crossing genres, continents and time. The result is fresh and beautiful, making WILLOW Misty River's most evocative album to date. Samples are now available for listening in our Music tab.

Preview: Healing Music, Sustaining Love: Mother with leukemia and daughter play through pain
By Paul Denison
The Register-Guard
Anyone who sees Misty River in concert might notice something special going on between two of the four women in this popular Northwest folk group: the older woman who plays guitar and the petite bass player who is young enough to be her daughter.
That's because Carol Harley, 55, and Laura Quigley, 28, are mother and daughter. It's also because they've been through a lot together.
Laura was just a toddler 26 years ago when her mother survived melanoma that was supposed to kill her.

| Sad News from Misty River |

Dear Misty River friends, fans and family,
It is with great sadness that we share the following news with you. One of our band members, Carol Harley, has recently been diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. This is a life-threatening disease affecting the bone marrow and white blood cells. Carol has recently begun chemotherapy through drugs she administers at home and we are waiting to see how she responds to treatment before considering other measures such as a bone marrow transplant. Carol continues to be in good spirits and is taking one day at a time.

THE OREGONIAN

'sound check'
notes from the Northwest music scene
Friday, June 11, 2004
SCOTT D. LEWIS
A lot of Misty River's fans are communists.
Now, that's not a comment on those across the country who enjoy the local quartet's heady blend of Americana, Celtic and folk music marked by rich harmonies, but rather an acknowledgment that the band is big in China.
Misty River, which celebrates the release of its latest CD, "Willow," Saturday night at the Hollywood Theatre, was selected to represent the United States at the Shanghai International Music Festival last month. "It was an incredible opportunity," says guitarist Carol Harley. Thousands of rapt crowd members heard them play, millions more watched the performance via television, and a distribution deal is in the works.

| Misty River provides Sountrack for Barbecue America on OPB & other PBS stations in the USA |
Misty River with guest artist, Greg Clarke had the honor of being chosen to record the sound track for a wonderful new cooking show, a series called, Barbecue America, hosted by Vancouver, WA's own Rick Browne. The instrumental music is a mixture of traditionals and some original music including Bluegrass, Old-Time, Swing and Country music. Greg Clarke's lively "Stumptown Stomp" seems to be the theme song for the show.

"Bob Crump has finally done it in bringing the ultimate music system to CES. Last night, his room had a sound that can only be described as flawlessly real. This system featured 4 speakers possessed with an unique self aware intelligence and unmatched beauty with each having a completely distinctive character and perfect custom finish. It's no surround system baby, rather a more complex 4 channel array that was voiced to perfection. Here it is, BEST of Show!
Enjoy"... Rod.

EXCERPTS FROM: MISTY RIVER & TRACY GRAMMER CONCERT
By Diane Schulstad (former Editor of Victory Music Review)
Victory Review, Acoustic Music Magazine
Volume 29, Number 01, January 2004
"There are certain concerts that pass beyond being a transitory, fleeting pleasure into the realm of being… an experience. An unforgettable experience…one that you will hold in your heart as a treasure.
I was the grateful participant of such an experience: the double billing of the Portland-based band, Misty River, and Tracy Grammer performing with a full band at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, November 15, 2003.

Misty River Review from SixMoons.com 10-28-2003
From: Srajan Ebaen, Publisher http://www.sixmoons.com

Misty River is an all-female quartet dedicated to vocal harmonizing in the genre of Appalachian Americana. Its paths of Celtic fiddle, Bluegrass banjo and Zydeco accordion intersect with heartfelt lyrics and a healthy disdain for speed-for-speed's-sake showmanship. Think story-driven art house movie rather than Hollywood special-effects extravaganza. No honky tonk broken-down-truck, whiney 6-pack Country Blues fables, either. Far from it. That's likely due to the maturity of the Misty River ladies who must have lived full lives with their eyes open, to now pen lyrics like for "Real As A Dream" which go:
