  USS Constellation
Model Ship
SPECIAL EDITION measures: 56"L x 50"T x 11"WClick here to see detailed photos below!
The first U.S. Navy ship to bear the name Constellation, for the "new constellation
of stars" on the American flag, was launched in Baltimore on September 7, 1797.
The USS Constellation helped with the end of slavery by helping capture ships
that were carrying slaves. The Constellation captured a slave brig name "The
Triton" on May 21, 1799 and it was the U.S. Navy's first capture of the Civil
War.
The USS Constellation earned the nickname "Yankee Racehorse" by capturing a
French 36-gun frigate in 1799. The Constellation is one of the last remaining
war ships. The USS Constellation served in the Civil War, World War I (WWI),
and World War II (WWII).
The Constellation was originally launched in Baltimore and it remains a historic
landmark in Baltimore Harbor in Washington D.C. It took 3 years and 8 months
to restore the U.S.S. Constellation.
