Consular Affairs Bulletins

East Asia / Pacific - Solomon Islands
19 Apr 2006

The following Warden Message for the Solomon Islands was issued by U.S. Embassy Port Moresby on April 19, 2006:

According to numerous reports, the security situation in Honiara remains fluid. There are still roving gangs and order has not been restored.

We wish to caution all American citizens in the Honiara area to stay indoors if possible and to stay out of downtown Honiara. Additionally, Americans should take note of Australian High Commission security advice to their nationals and be guided accordingly.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet website at http://travel.state.gov.  The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby also maintains a website at http://portmoresby.usembassy.gov.  In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.
